Sloths, Rainforest Trails, and Coral Reefs in Puerto Viejo
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a town in southeast Costa Rica, on the Caribbean coast. It’s known for the Salsa Brava surf break and beaches like black-sand Playa Negra. The Jaguar Rescue Center rehabilitates wild cats and other animals. Gandoca-Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge has rainforest, wetlands and mangroves. To the north, Cahuita National Park protects a large coral reef and has a shipwreck dive site.
We took a tour that includes shuttle to Puerto Viejo and rafting in Pacuare river. It was an amazing experience! It was really fun! In the evening, We walked from the hostel to the beach, and We saw a sloth! We walked along the shore.
In our first day, We visited Parque Nacional Cahuita. Later, We walked around the town beach. Parque Nacional Cahuita is a lush nature park featuring blue-water beaches, trails and numerous species of coral and animals.
In our last day, We visited Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Gandoca – Manzanillo. This little-explored refuge – called Regama for short – protects nearly 70% of the southern Caribbean coast, extending from Manzanillo all the way to the Panamanian border. It encompasses 50 sq km of land plus 44 sq km of marine environment. After lunch, We walked to Punta uva beach. On the way to the beach, We saw some toucans. We were very lucky! In the beach, We saw a cute baby sloth drinking water. It was a great day!
