Beaches, Trails, and Puffer Fish in Busan

korea | May 14, 2025

Busan, second  largest city in Korea, a large port city in South Korea, is known for its beaches, mountains and temples. Busy Haeundae Beach features the Sea Life Aquarium, plus a Folk Square with traditional games such as tug-of-war, while Gwangalli Beach has many bars and views of modern Diamond Bridge. Beomeosa Temple, a Buddhist shrine founded in 678 A.D., is at the base of Geumjeong Mountain, which has hiking trails. Since it has the largest seaport in South Korea, the city has abundant seafood and traditional street markets where you can enjoy fresh and delectable dishes.

In Busan, We explored the following places:

  • Haeundae Beach is the most famous beach in Busan. The white sand beach is roughly 1.5 kilometers long, over a 30- to 50-meter wide area, creating a beautiful coastline before a shallow bay, making it perfect for swimming. This beach features fishing, swimming, various festivals and skyline views.
  • Busan Green Railway walking trail is a long trail that connects Haeundae Olympic Junction to East Busan Tourism Complex through Mipo Port, Cheongsapo Port, and Songjeong Beach. You can really enjoy a panoramic view of the Busan coastline.
  • Dongbaekseom Island (Island of Camellias) is an island located off one end of Busan’s famous Haeundae Beach. The island has several attractions, including the monument inscribed with a poem of scholar Choi Chi-won, the mermaid statue based on the legend of Princess Hwagok, and the Nurimaru APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) House. It also offers fantastic views of the Busan shoreline towards Mipo, Dalmaji Hill, Gwangangdaegyo Bridge, and Oryukdo Island.

Beside the attractions in Busan, We had puffer fish for lunch in a restaurant. The meat is considered a delicacy in South Korea (as 복, bok, or 복어, bogeo) . The majority of pufferfish species are toxic, while some are among the most poisonous vertebrates in the world. At restaurants, It is prepared by specially trained chefs who know which part is safe to eat and in what quantity. We survided so it was prepared by well trained chefs!! Puffer fish is a favorite among seafood lovers because of its mild white fish-like taste. It does not taste fishy.
